Medical Education and Training
I received all my medical education and training at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal (a constituent of Manipal Academy of Higher Education). I started my undergraduate training (M.B.B.S.) in August 2003 and graduated in April 2009. Kasturba Hospital Manipal is one of India's top private medical colleges. Manipal also has one of Asia's best Health Sciences libraries and Anatomy Museum. As part of our clinical teaching, we rotated through several specialities and super-specialities. During my M.B.B.S., I was also actively involved in extracurricular activities as well. I was appointed general secretary and then president of the student council (2006-2008).
After our final semester, we interned in various clinical departments and gained valuable real-world experience and training.
Next, I spent a year preparing for entrance examinations (2009) after which I secured a seat in M.D. General Medicine in 2010. We had 10 Units in the department of Medicine, each with a Professor, an Associate Professor and an Assistant Professor to mentor us and train us. We were also required to undergo two months of training in each of the super-specialities.
After I graduated with an M.D. General Medicine, I spent a year working at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in the Department of Pulmonary Medicine. It was then, that I knew I wanted to go into Cardiology. I cracked the entrance exam in 2015 and started my journey as a cardiologist.
As part of my D.M. training, I performed over 2500 diagnostic coronary angiograms, assisted in 600 coronary angioplasties and performed over 150 angioplasties as the first/ primary operator. I also trained in procedures like pacemaker insertions, angioplasties of the blood vessels of the lower limbs and kidneys, device closures of congenital (by-birth) defects in the heart and several other procedures. We also trained in echocardiography, cardiac intensive care, emergency life-saving procedures and other core-cardiology skills.
